  1. I am very sad to have learned about Professor Ali A. Mazuri’s Versterben. He was a fine scholar, gracious human being, and admired colleague of mine. I have been always very proud that he accepted the invitation to my conference “The Question of the Other” that took place at ‪#‎Binghamton‬ University in 1991 and was funded by the German Academic Exchange Service. Dr. Mazrui presented a distinguished lecture on “The ‘Other’ as the ‘Self’ under Cultural Dependency: The Impact of the Postcolonial University.” His lecture is included in the printed collection of the presentations of this conference that I published in 1995 with SUNY Press under the title: “Encountering the Other(s). Studies in Literature, History, and Culture.” My deep condolence to the family.
